Term 1
Maths in Year 2 is a vibrant program where we encourage students to think about how they solve a problem and how they relate maths to everyday life. Discussing our strategies is a major focus of our lessons. Gradually we learn to recognise and select the most efficient strategies. The fun we have in learning the process is just as important as the answer itself!
Number and Algebra
This term we will be focusing on:
~ recognising, modelling, representing and ordering numbers to at least 1000.
~ investigating number sequences, by twos, threes, fives and ten from any starting point.
Statistics and Probability
This term we will be focusing on:
~ gathering, checking and classifying data relevant to different questions
~ creating displays of data using lists, tables and picture graphs and interpreting them.
Measurement & Geometry
This term we will be focusing on:
~ comparing and ordering several shapes and objects based on length, area, volume and capacity.
~ comparing masses of objects using balance scale.
~ telling time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to'.
~ describing the features of three-dimensional objects.
~ interpreting simple maps and the positions of key features on maps.
